Educational Activities of Odessa Union of Russian People in 1906—1917

Abstract
The article examines the creation and operation of the educational institutions of the Odessa Union of Russian People (OURP) throughout its existence. Particular attention is paid to the financial situation of these educational institutions, as well as the numerical and social composition of the student body and faculty — issues previously overlooked by researchers. It was established that the number of educational institutions founded by the OURP reached five (a male gymnasium, a female college with a teacher training seminary course, a vocational school, and male and female primary schools). Furthermore, a children’s paramilitary organization, the OURP toy battalion, emerged under the auspices of the Odessa Union, and various educational courses were organized. The Union’s educational institutions opened in stages beginning in 1906 and, despite financial problems and officials’ wariness of monarchist initiatives, continued to operate successfully, including the time of World War I.
