Abstract

The article provides information on new records of orchids (Orchidaceae) made by the authors in the Western Caucasus, within the administrative boundaries of the town of Goryachy Klyuch, as well as of the Abinsky, Seversky, Apsheronsky, Mostovsky, Labinsky, and Otradnensky districts of Krasnodar Krai. Thirty-one new locations for 14 protected taxa were identified, 9 of which are listed in the Red Data Book of the Russian Federation. The discovery of Steveniella satyrioides on Mount Sober-Bash confirms its presence in the Adagum-Pshish botanical-geographical region. For two high-mountain species, Epipogium aphyllum and Traunsteinera sphaerica, the recorded locations mark the northern boundary of their range within the Caucasus. The greatest number of habitats was identified on the Shakhan Ridge (new locations for 7 taxa). This part of the Skalisty Ridge features distinct cuesta landforms and a high diversity of biotopes. The data presented in the article are important for updating orchid distribution data for the upcoming fourth edition of the Red Data Book of Krasnodar Krai. For two species, Epipogium aphyllum and Neotinea ustulata, we propose upgrading their rarity status in the new edition of the Red Data Book of Krasnodar Krai to 2 EN (“Endangered”) to more accurately reflect the status of their regional orchid population.
